With the virulent E coli having raised its ugly head, many thousands of Fire Island residents have been issued a warning to completely stop using tap water that has not been boiled. This is close on the heels of authorities having detected EColi presence in the samples.
Nearly 100,000 pounds of ice and 30,000 bottles of water have been transported to Fire Island and will be given to almost 10 badly troubled communities.County Executive Steve Levy said "It's better to be safe than sorry."
E. coli triggers diarrhea, cramps, nausea and headaches especially dangerous for infants.
