Chicago: Read this story at your own risk, of losing sleep over the race that sleeps more! A recent study by a team from the University of Chicago study has discovered that wealthy whites sleep well as compared to all other ethnic groups.

Diane Lauderdale, the school’s professor of health studies said 'People are sleeping less than they think they are -- and less than most people think is needed.’ Lauderdale and her team studied the sleeping pattern of 669 adults aged between 38 and 50 years old. The study revealed an overall sleep rate of 81%, and it was found that nearly 7.5 hours was spent on an average, just trying to fall asleep. The actual hours spent sleeping, averaged at 6.1 hrs.

The racial sleep statistics reads - White women slept 6.7 hours on an average per night after spending 7.8 hours in bed. White men slept for 6.09 hours. The blacks slept for a little more than 5 hours.

The researchers were perplexed by the difference in sleeping pattern among races, with no scientific reasoning yet for this occurring. The findings have been published in the current issue of the American Journal of Epidemiology.
