The outbreak of Avian flu at Cape Farm held under check

by Medindia Content Team on Jul 4 2006 2:30 PM

A quarantine is under effect in an ostrich farm, after fears of avian attack resulted in the culling of nearly sixty ostriches. The agriculture department is happy with the fast reaction of veterinarians and labs that detected the disease, and enabled timely control measures.

To much relief, this avian influenza strain of virus is spared from the deadly H5N1 virus.
