Greater Southern Health acting chief has expressed doubts as to whether the $46 million budget increase could help in funding the opening of a mental health rehabilitation unit in the Riverina.

According to Sunflower House officials the $240,000 recurrent funding needed for the Wagga clubhouse itself has been stalled by the State Government. Irate at having been refused funds by the Heath Minister they commented that the Lands Minister had approved a long-term lease on the building.

While the health chief, Dr Nigel Lyons, has given assurances of additional services he mentioned that spending had yet to be finalized.

He said, 'I won't comment in detail about specific services or models of care. What I will say is what we'll be doing with the mental health budget allocation is looking at how we can provide better access to services across our whole area for people in need.'
