It’s not difficult to take a guess on what could be top of the heap among Britain’s maladies. Depression and chronic anxiety, now out in the open as a common affliction , needs urgent remedy, because this is one mental health issue that is threatening to become a social problem.

It is estimated that nearly one million people avail an incapacity benefit due to this debilitating ailment that renders them unemployed. Sadly, most of the sufferers do not avail proper treatment. Now, the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (Nice) has laid down procedures that direct specialists to offer the choice of psychological therapy to the patients. Often, due to all mental health treatments being drug-driven, patients tend to get wary of seeking help.

The success rate of psychological therapies is being established. Infact with as little as 16 sessions, nearly 50% of the patients are able to find a cure. Cognitive behavioral therapy, on par with the efficacy of drugs, proves better in the long run and helps preventing a relapse.

The unfortunate bit about psychological therapy is there are too few therapists available to render timely help. Unbelievably, people are waiting for over months to meet with therapists. The need of the hour is to enable psychological thereapy services in every area, which can be availed by the patients.
