Modern Killer Disease Alert Indians

Type 2 Diabetes, a modern disease is considered to be more prevalent in India next to China and US – reports the International Diabetes Federation (IDF). China ranks first with an estimated number of 39 million sufferers and India second with 30 million cases, followed by US having 21 million sufferers of the popular lifestyle disease - Type 2 diabetes.

Diabetes incidence have been increased upto 7 folds in the last 20 years (from 30 million cases to 230 million) worldwide, says IDF at the American Diabetes Association's scientific session.

IDF - International Diabetes Federation warned that in the next 20 years, the number shoot up from 230 million to 350 million.

UN, apart from its pro-active measures, has passed a resolution on decreasing diabetes spread and burden around the world, attracts world attention to take immediate action to manage without complications.

For every 10 seconds, one person dies due to diabetes-related causes, means which is spreading as the life-threatening diseases – AIDS.

Martin Silink, IDF's president alerts, if the government does not realize the situation and takes immediate action Diabetes will spread as an epidemic that destroys the healthcare resources.

Type 2 diabetes can be easily prevented by dietary modifications and lifestyle changes with more physical activity.

Main causative factors for Type 1 diabetes (insulin dependent) prevalance seems to be low exercise habits and increased intake of high carb diet among the people. Thus correcting these may make a way to its prevention.
