Haryana Government Discovers Misappropriation In School Funds
The Haryana government Wednesday discovered an embezzlement of nearly Rs.4.4 million from funds meant for the state's schools.

The irregularities in the fund use were discovered during checking of records of Faridabad district, said K.K. Khandelwal, director-general of school education.

The embezzlement was done by four officials of the district education officer's office between May 1997 and March 2005.

Out of this, financial irregularities of over Rs.3.2 million were discovered in the period from November 2000 to March 2005.

The matter came to light following complaints received by the education department head office here.

Unauthorised purchases were made by the officials with funds meant for students, and it was done by official who did not have the power to do so, a spokesman said here.
