Right now screening tests for ovarian cancer are not very appropriate. That makes it all the more important to concentrate on strategies to prevent the disease. Now, according to a new study, there's something all women can do to lower their risk. Researchers studied nearly six hundred women to see if staying active affected the odds of getting ovarian cancer. They looked at how active the women were not just recently, but from adolescence through menopause and beyond.
Being active lowered the risk of ovarian cancer . In fact, women who stayed active throughout their lifetime cut their risk of ovarian cancer by 27 percent. This is good news for all women, and it is one more reason to maintain a regular program of moderate activity throughout life.
Exercise is not the only way a woman can reduce her risk of ovarian cancer, although it is probably the easiest. So this study is yet another motivation for women to start exercising.
