Now, with a new lease of life, Bill is on an anti-obesity initiative, with a motive to make the future generation, a leaner lot!
Major players have joined hands in this fight against fat - The Clinton Foundation, the American Heart Association, Coke, Pepsi and Cadbury Schweppes. An agreement has been drawn which will ensure that the teams put their best plans forward to combat the growing obesity in America.
The first place where this difference is going to be felt will be the schools. The manufacturers of beverages and foods are deliberating a move that will replace high calorie food and drinks with low fat options. Vending machines, cafeteria lunches and snack foods will be set on a revamp mode and replaced with optimum calorie options. The spread in restaurants will also figure on the anti-obesity campaigners' mandate, to dish out leaner and healthier choices.
Nearly 35 million school-age children will stand to be benefited by the soda revamp. It is estimated that nearly 17% of U.S kids are grossly overweight, a bad prognosis for obesity related diseases. Even 10 year olds are getting holed up with obesity-related Type 2 diabetes, normally associated with adults.
Amid such a grim scenario, the Clinton plan surely holds promise and is worth a billion dollars. To quote his words "This one policy can add years and years and years to the lives of a very large number of young people."
