Keith Koster, 20, of Boxford, former high school football star died in a freak accident, after he was dragged to his death in Danvers by a car thief who was speeding after stealing Koster’s car.

Koster had beseeched the car thief, Roy C. Dowds Jr., 31, of Lawrence, to not rob his car, as per police reports. Apparently the car was stolen from the parking lot of a Danvers tuxedo shop.

Witnesses informed the police that they saw Dowds driving westbound at breakneck on Route 114, swerving and speeding, while Koster hung onto the side of the car.

Koster, was actually employed at the Giblee’s Tuxedo Shop on Route 114 in Danvers when, on Thursday night, a colleague raised an alarm that someone was driving his car from the parking lot. Koster made a dash towards the Ford Explorer and begged Dowds to stop the car.

Koster got onto the passenger sideboard and hung on to the ski rack on the car roof. Koster was thrown off when Dowds drove the vehicle into a tree, according to police reports. This impact threw Koster into the right lane of the traffic ridden highway. He was later taken to the Beverly Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
