Information on the gender of the child is not being revealed in Grampian. NHS there has stopped giving the information because of the amount of staff time it took up. Expectant mothers are not being told about it.
A spokesperson said, "We have stopped providing the news not because we are getting it wrong but because of time management. It can take two or three or four minutes to get the sex right. When you aggregate that over a day or week or month it adds up. If we no longer do that we can see more women and cut down waiting times, it's as simple as that. We are not the first. Reaction has been mixed but some are relieved as it removes the pressure."When it is important to know it due to genetic reasons a more accurate procedure is adopted.
