Use This Smartphone App to Steer Away from Abusive Relationships
To help women protect themselves from violent or abusive relationships, scientists have come up with a smartphone app.
Interactive ‘One Love My Plan’ app helps college-age women to chart out their own safety strategies. The application sends out warning signals to young women about any impending danger by helping them analyse their relationships.

"At some point, almost everyone knows someone in an unhealthy relationship," said Tina Bloom, an assistant professor at the University of Missouri's Sinclair School of Nursing.

Bloom said the aim of the free app was to provide secret information to women and their well wishers.

"Women between the ages of 18 and 24 are at the highest risk for dating violence. However, these women are less likely than older adults to seek formal safety resources and instead look to peers or technology for help and advice," the app's developers said.

According to studies, it has come to light that today’s younger generation, across all socioeconomic backgrounds, are most likely to own smartphones and many of them even use their handsets to read about health and safety issues.

The app also contains information on healthy relationship and relationship violence myths. It also teaches ways to reach out to friends who are possibly in dangerous relationships. As a helping tool, one can even use the app to get advices from trained peer advocates.
