UN Offers To Help India In Dealing With Malaria, HIV
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon expressed his wish to help India deal with diseases such as polio, malaria, tetanus, measles and HIV transmission-related mortality.
The UN secretary-general, who landed in the capital on a two-day visit, commended India's success in combating polio during his meeting with Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad.

"They (UN member nations) would wish to help India in dealing with polio, malaria, tetanus, measles and HIV transmission related mortality," said Ban.

He said India is one of the important member states of UN.

Taking cognizance of work still to be done to achieve the Millennium Development Goals, Ban said he would like to showcase India's experiences and best practices in dealing with maternal and child health issues for others to follow.

"They would wish to help India in dealing with polio, malaria, tetanus, measles and HIV transmission related mortality," he said.

Azad conveyed to the UN secretary general that "this is an opportune moment, for you to use your good offices to urge member nations to not reduce their financial and technical support to public health initiatives for the common benefit of the global community".
