Diarrhea is a major threat to children below the age of 5. The district health department of Nashik have decided to observe diarrhea control week till August 8 by implementing various programs across the district.
Senior officials of the district health department said, the deaths due to diarrhea are more in the rainy and summer seasons.
AdvertisementFrom July 27 to August 2, the medical staff of the district will be visiting every household in every village and hamlet of the district to check children below five years of age and establish (Oral Rehydration Salt) ORS and Zinc Corners. Students in government and semi government schools will be educated on the importance of washing hands.
From August 3 to August 8, health workers would organize exhibitions and spread awareness on proper diet and breast feeding to pregnant women and mothers of new born children. Children falling in the vulnerable group would also be checked and recommended for further medical treatment if needed.
District health officer Sushil Wakchaure said, "We have created a list of programs that will be implemented through the fortnight. The health workers would meet at least 25 houses of children below five years of age, check them and provide them with ORS sachets."
