Trouble for Nestle Increases as Activist Calls for Ban of Maggi in Jammu And Kashmir
Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was urged by an RTI activist to ban the sale of Maggi noodles in light of the recent events regarding the health hazard of the two minute instant noodles. He appealed that it be removed from school and hospital canteens until deemed safe to eat.
In his petition to the Chief Minister through Grievance Cell, the RTI activist, Raman Sharma has submitted: “I am worried about the presence of MSG, monosodium glumate and lead in ‘Maggi’, a sort of noodles that are quite famous in the country and obviously in J&K also.”

He has also expressed concern on the casual approach being taken by the State Food Authorities since the product was available in all hotels, restaurants and all canteens of educational centers.

"J&K Drug and Food Control Organization must be directed to immediately pick samples and get them tested from laboratories of national repute and till final report and expert opinion on the samples comes, the product be banned," he demanded.

The activist also stated that if the official results confirm the product fit for consumption, then the ban be revoked immediately so that the company associated with its sales and marketing are not affected.
