Throat Cancer Threat Kills 57 Year Old Doctor
Cancer, perturbed 57-year-old doctor and made him commit suicide by jumping into the Marina beach. Dr J Arivoli, Joint Medical Director, Additional Director for TB was suffering from throat cancer and worried over his illness though his family members were helping him deal with the stress. //
Around 5.45am, Arivoli came to marine beach and jumped into the sea before any of the early morning beach goers noticed him, police said after inquiries.

One of his relatives was called in to identify the body which was washed behind the Gandhi statue and was handed over to the family after postmortem at Government Royapettah hospital.

Dr R Mohan Kumar, medical officer, technical support unit, directorate of public health, said "Dr Arivoli was my teacher at Coimbatore Medical College when I did my MBBS between 1993 and 1999 and he was one of the most respectable persons I have met. He had a gentle and simple nature and was open to helping anyone at anytime. His loss is irreplaceable.”

Director of public health Dr K Kolandaisamy said "Once when he had to address a public meeting on TB, he was given a 20-minute slot to speak. But he spoke so passionately about the subject that all of us were spellbound even after an hour of his talk. He had undergone cancer treatment and he made it a point to tell the crowd that nothing in life was certain and we should value the significance of life."
