Teenager Makes a Remarkable Recovery from Stroke and Walks the Ramp for a Beauty Competition
This story is about the spirit of a teenager who bounced back after suffering a stroke and went on to be selected as one of the finalists of a national beauty pageant.
Just as she applied to participate in a contest, in a strange quirk of fate, 18-year-old Emily Shephard was left paralyzed down her left side. She had qualified to compete for the Miss Wales title after winning the Miss Torfaen title.

During a ten week trip to a summer camp in Minnesota, America, she had collapsed after suffering a stroke. The stroke had left her temporarily blind and paralyzed on the left side. Heart broken but determined, she strove to fight back. Doctors blame it on stress as one of the reasons behind the stroke.

After three weeks in a hospital, she recovered and went on to be selected as a finalist in a national beauty pageant. She will now be part of the final event to be held in March.

‘Winning the beauty pageant gave me the chance to show what I can achieve and the boost I needed. It shows that bad things can happen to you but with the right attitude and a bit of luck you can overcome anything,’ she said ecstatically.
