Technology Driven Sleep Deprivation Debunked by Australian Study
The common belief that technological devices like computers and mobile phones are increasingly eating into our sleep, have been debunked by researchers at the University of Sydney.
After studying the Australian Bureau of Statistics data from 1992, 1997 and 2006, researchers found there has been no significant change over almost 20-years in the average amount of sleep that Australians are getting.

Associate Professor Nicholas Glozier said, "Public health concerns over declining sleep duration do not appear to be warranted. The time allocated to sleep by Australian adults appears to have withstood the challenges of societal and technological change during this period."

The overall findings of this study are positive, as sleep deprivation is associated with several health issues like premature death, heart disease, obesity, accident and injury, and mental health problems.

The study is published in the Australian Medical Journal.
