Tamil Nadu State Alerted About Japanese Encephalitis
Union Health Minister has warned the state about emerging cases of Japanese Encephalitis (JE) and the Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES). It is rising from several districts in Tamil Nadu (TN). The state has been advised on being “vigilant” in order to fight such diseases.
In a meeting with the TN Health Minister, Nadda accepted to include three other districts of the state into the JE immunisation programme. He also promised to bringing improvement in health services to the state.

During the Chennai meeting, various health parameters were reviewed and also various national health programmes implementation were re-examine. Specifically, vector-borne diseases namely JE and AES were reviewed.

"Noting that JE/AES cases were emerging from other parts of (TN) other than the programme districts, the Health Minister advised the state government to be more vigilant in the other districts and agreed to take three more districts into the JE immunisation programme," according to an official release today.

The Health Ministers of Assam, Bihar, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and TN have been called over for an inter-ministerial meeting on January 7th to review all JE and AES cases in the respective cases.

A release has stated that Nadda revealed about approval acquired for setting a cancer institute in TN and also funds for this will be released very soon. The minister also declared that Rs. 2.5 crore has been released by the state for establishing paediatric ICUs in five districts of TN namely Madurai, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Villupuram and Karur.

In order to set up physical and medical rehabilitation centre’s at the Madurai Medical College, Rs. 5 crore has been released.
