Parents who are careless about protecting their children against sunburn must be warned, experts said.

Skin cancer is a possible risk and commenting on this Leigh Smith of Melanoma Action and Support Scotland said: "As far as I'm concerned it is a child protection issue. These parents have tripled their children's chances of getting skin cancer."

Some of the symptoms of skin cancer are:

1. A new growth or abnormal accumulation of cells in the skin.

2. A change in an existing skin growth.

3. A sore that does not heal.
