Tag Alcohol Bottles to Curb Underage Drinking- Scottish Labor
To help reduce underage drinking and anti-social behavior Scottish Labor has asked local licensing boards to enforce the ‘tagging’ of bottles of alcohol. Under this scheme, bottles will be marked with a unique barcode so that they can be traced to specific stores. If under 18 years drinkers are found with such tagged bottles, officers can trace the shop and check the shop’s CCTV to ascertain who bought the bottle of alcohol. The scheme would cost less than £100 per shop and would help curb antisocial behavior in areas with under-age drinking problems.
Labor Community’s Safety spokesman James Kelly said, "Under-age drinking can all too often be a direct cause of antisocial behavior in communities across Scotland. This innovative but simple approach will hopefully help bring to justice those peddling booze to young people."

A spokesman said, "As an intelligence-led tool, it can help forces crack down on the problem by proving that certain shops are selling alcohol to under-18s.”
