Surgery to Remove Six-Foot Metal Bar That Had Pierced Skull is Successful

A 24-year old construction worker in Brazil successfully underwent a surgery that saw doctors remove a six-foot metal bar that had pierced his skull. The bar fell down from six stories high and pierced Eduardo Leite’s head, going in at the top of his skull in the back and coming out from in between the eyes.

He was rushed to the Miguel Couto Hospital in Rio de Janeiro where doctors conducted a five-hour long surgery to remove the bar and were astonished to hear that he felt very little pain.

“He was taken to the operating room, his skull was opened, they examined the brain and the surgeon decided to pull the metal bar out from the front in the same direction it entered the brain. Today, he continues well, with few complaints for a five-hour-long surgery. He says he feels little pain”, the hospital’s chief of staff, Luiz Alexandre Essinger said.
