Researchers in Greece have found that drinking a pint of beer every day can lead to better heart health by improving the condition of the blood vessels around the heart, a new study published in the journal Nutrition reveals.
The study was conducted by researchers at Harokopio University in Athens who observed around 17 non-smoking men who were in their late twenties and early thirties.
AdvertisementEach of the participants were asked to drink around 400 millilitres, or two thirds of a pint, of beer and had their cardiovascular health measured within two hours and the tests were repeated after the participants drank same amount of alcohol-free beer or a measure of vodka.
On checking the effect of the drinks on endothelial function, which measures how easily blood passes through major arteries, and aortic stiffness, which checks whether blood vessels have begun to harden, the researchers found that while all the three drinks were beneficial to the blood vessels functioning, beer had the most beneficial effect.
