New research has indicated that 'fashion-conscious' women in Australia are reportedly spending more on online shopping as compared to men.
According to survey by the National Australia Bank (NAB), despite concerns that fashion would be a late entrant to online shopping due to sizing and the desire to try on clothes, women are snapping up bargains.
"Fashion is one of the fastest-growing online categories and that women have grown their spending online twice as fast as men over the last year are clearly connected," Courier Mail quoted NAB chief economist Alan Oster, as saying.
The NAB data shows that online spending is growing faster than the traditional bricks-and-mortar sales, with the 30-40 age group being the biggest spenders.
According to the research, busy consumers hunting cheaper prices and greater convenience drove an almost 25 percent rise in online retailing to 11.7 billion dollars in the past year.
Domestic retailers remain the dominant force, but about one in four purchases is from an international website, while an estimated 9.6 million Australians over the age of 15 are expected to buy at least one thing online this year, the study said.
