Stop Hunger Now Hosts First Community-Led Event in India
The first local community-led event for Stop Hunger Now India took place in association with Teztadka restaurant, Bangalore, India. Nearly 70 volunteers turned up to help in packing 10,000 meals for underprivileged kids from a school. The meals included nutritionally fortified rice, dhal and vegetables. //
Stop Hunger Now, an international organisation established in 1998, coordinates the distribution of food and other life-saving aid to crisis-burdened areas around the world. They have packaged and distributed over 300,000,000 meals in 65 countries.

In India, they are setting up their full time office, with the first chapter being located in Bangalore. Speaking about the event, Gaurav Shanbhag, the managing partner of Teztadka said, “As a restaurant, we see a lot of food being wasted on a daily basis while there are millions of people around the world that go hungry to bed. We want to solve some of the hunger issues. We hope to host many such events to help the community.”

Dola Mohapatra from Stop Hunger Now India said, “The beauty of this event was the coming together of socially committed individuals who truly want to make a difference by taking direct action. The spirit of the volunteers, most of whom are well placed professionals in various fields, was contagious when they came together to package meals.”

One of the volunteers, Arun Katiyar, said, “This event was fun and fulfilling and we managed to pack 10,000 meals in a short span of 2.5 hours!”

The volunteers were also treated to a performance by the folk-rock band Swarathma and are looking forward to get involved in feeding the hungry in the city.
