Steps Taken To Contain Outbreak Of Dengue Enquired By Telangana Health Minister
A review meeting on steps to control Dengue in Telangana was held by Telangana Health Minister C Laxma Reddy. Finally a decision was taken to procure more kits to diagnose the patients.
Khammam recorded the maximum number of cases, 52 from April, similar to last year. As people from the neighboring districts approach Hyderabad’s hospitals for treatment, the city recorded a total of 57 cases.

The steps which are being taken to contain the outbreak were enquired by the minister at the meeting with health officials. To avoid breeding ground for mosquitoes, the health officials cautioned people to clean the vessels and containers in which water is stored to avoid stagnation of water.

“In the areas where availability of water is less, it is stored in vessels. And they are not cleaned regularly providing breeding ground for disease spreading mosquitoes. This is a recurring problem and should be tackled. We will drive this point through awareness campaigns,” said Dr Y Lalitha Kumari, director of Health.

Water present in the air coolers are not drained when they are not used especially in urban areas. Ninety five percent of the cases are treated through symptomatic treatment. People should seek medical help immediately when there are symptoms like bleeding through nose, rectum or excessive bleeding during periods, she said.

Elderly people, pregnant women and children should be very careful. Some of the symptoms of dengue include, fever, pain behind eye balls, fluctuation in blood pressure.
