St Michael's House Faces a Cash Crunch

by Savitha C Muppala on Jun 20 2008 5:35 PM

Brewing financial trouble may force one of Ireland's reputed special needs organizations to cease some of the valuable services offered to new born babies suffering different forms of mental disabilities.

St Michael's House has been actively involved in improving the lives of those with special needs for 53 years.

Explaining that it is the first time the organization has ever decided to cut some of its services, Chairman Maurice Bracken said, "We are experiencing a crisis.

On the one hand our waiting lists are increasing and on the other our funding is decreasing.

Essentially, we are in the position of not being able to provide services to parents of newly-born babies with Down's syndrome or other intellectual disabilities."
