Headed by a Plastic Surgeon, First-Ever Sports Injury Center Soon in Bengaluru, India
A new sports injury center will be set up soon at Sanjay Gandhi Institute of Trauma & Orthopaedics Center in Bengaluru city, Karnataka, India.
U.T. Khader, Minister for Health and Family Welfare said that the center would have facilities to treat cricketers, athletes, football players, tennis players and other sportsmen who have ligament, bone and other injuries.

The center will be headed by plastic surgeon Dr. B G Tilak and also have specialists in sports injury and physiotherapy, said Khader.

Safdarjung Hospital in capital was the first in India to start a center for sports injury. The new sports injury center in Bengaluru will be the second in India and first in the state.

“The center will help sportsmen to recover from injuries with best treatment including minimally invasive surgery. Expert doctors and infrastructure will make the center the best in the state. Majority of the work is complete and we are planning to invite an achiever in the field of sports to inaugurate it,” Khader said.

Dr. Madan Ballal, sports injuries and arthroscopy specialist, said the center will focus on arthroscopic surgery that requires minimal incision. He also added that the center will have all modern infrastructure required for a sports injury center including a modular operation theater.
