Betaine which is present in shellfish and beets was found to boost the athletic performance by almost six percent when added to a sports drink, finds study.
Ithaca College's Exercise and Sport Sciences Chair, Thomas Swensen, who supervised the survey, said that betaine might contribute to creatine synthesis, which improves, strength, power and short-term performance, Newswise reported.

The study has been published in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition.
