September Becomes the Worst Month As Nearly 6,000 Fall Victims to Dengue in New Delhi
Delhi and its adjoining areas have recorded 5,982 cases of dengue till September 26, while the toll stands at 17, said authorities. Unofficially, the toll figure confirmed by media reports stands at over 60.
According to official figure released, at least 5,151 patients were found to be down with dengue between September 1-26, making it the worst month for the outbreak of the disease in the last six years. A total 5,982 people have been affected in the current year. Out of the total 5,982 cases, north Delhi recorded the highest at 1,734, south Delhi at 1,633 while east Delhi posted the lowest with 754 cases.

The number of dengue cases recorded so far are the highest since 2010 - over 6,000 in 2010, 1,131 in 2011, 2,093 in 2012, 5,574 in 2013 and 995 in 2014. Even the cases of death recorded this year are the highest in comparison to the same time frame.

The number of dengue deaths in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 were, respectively, 8, 8, 4, 6 and 3. Officials said the number of affected people is all set to overtake the total figure of 2010 when 6,259 cases were reported which was the highest in the last six years.
