Senior Citizens Happily Enjoying New Food: Study
We have always thought that elderly people are not happy with the new world food, but a research has revealed that more and senior citizens are accepting the new food and are happily enjoying them.
Spanish food research technology centre AZTI, in collaboration with the ADIMEN group of sociologists, carried out the research and found out that the elder consumers wanted the new food to have some flavour of the traditional flavour, along with being healthy and nutritious.

Of those involved in the study, 53 percent respondents said they happily enjoyed the new food. The research aims to come up with food that the seniors can enjoy without facing any problems related to ageing. It is working to produce various food prototypes.

“The results, the outcome of the interaction between methodologies of the sensory sciences and the consumer together with other more classical ones to do with sociological behaviour, have provided clear proof that 50 percent of the seniors consulted readily accepted new foods,” said the Spanish team.

Some of the problem areas for the elderly are cardiovascular disease, cancer and those relating to digestive health, the study said. The research team believes that senior citizens form a big chunk of the target consumers as they have the purchasing power and are also ready to try out new things.

After interacting with the seniors, the researchers said that for these elders the important point in trying new foods was that the moment of eating should become a moment of pleasure.
