Secret Behind Transmission of Malaria in Genes Revealed
The secret behind transmission of malaria in genes has revealed that Anopheles genus are the sole carriers of human malaria.
The study conducted by Simon Fraser University (SFU) examined mosquito’s chromosomal evolution over the past hundred million years and tried to reconstruct ancestral mosquito genomes through computational methods.

The researchers tried to understand how chromosomes evolved and to unravel potential adaptation mechanisms that may be related to malaria transmission.

Cedric Chauve, mathematician in SFU said that the study suggests an underlying genetic/genomic plasticity that results in a variation of key traits determining transmission capacity within the genus.

The findings are published in the ’Science Express’ of Science journal.
