Scissors Accidentally Left on Scale Helps Survival of Premature Baby Born at 23 Weeks
Maddalena Douse, has surely created a record as she miraculously survived after being born prematurely at 23 weeks. She is the youngest premature baby to have survived in the UK.
According to present guidelines in England, the minimum birth weight for a baby needs to be one pound in order to be entitled for medical care.

So, though her weight was much less than a pound, a pair of scissors left accidentally on the scale added to her weight giving an impression that her weight was as per the requirement.  Therefore, she was considered to receive medical care,  which is perhaps the reason she is alive today.

The baby, Maddalena Douse, is now 6 months old, and was discharged from Royal Sussex Hospital. She is truly a miracle baby, for if she didn’t weigh one pound, she would have been denied medical care and this might have adversely affected her survival chances.
