Scent of Oranges Calms Dutch Criminals

Some of the dreadful Dutch criminals are calmed by a novel way: The scent of oranges!

Dutch criminals of the most dreadful kind are being pacified through a novel way – scent of oranges.

A study has found that criminals in the Netherlands become less aggressive and have fewer fights when exposed to the scent of oranges.

According to the Rotterdam police, the four-week study indicated that criminals, many of them violent drug pushers, are soother and more compliant when the fragrances are spread through cell air vents.

"It's amazing, fighting in the cells has been dramatically reduced and we are using 10 per cent fewer sedation drugs,” the Telegraph quoted the head of police social services, Herma Heester, as saying.

Rotterdam has one of the highest crime rates in the Netherlands, with violent drug-related crimes comprising of more than half of arrests.
