Rockhampton Reports Ross River Virus Cases After Rocky Floods

by Dr. Sunil Shroff on Feb 29 2008 11:42 AM

Flooding in Rockhampton has resulted in a whopping increase of mosquitoes that carry viruses. Seven cases of viral attacks were reported in this region after the floods.

According to Queensland Health's Dr Margaret Young, further cases of the other mosquito-borne disease dengue fever were not reported.

''We are pretty keen to hear about cases of dengue if it develops and we have communicated that to GPs in the town, but we haven't had an action on that front so I am very pleased about that,'' she said.
