Retinal Implant AG Receives Approval For Alpha AMS Subretinal Implant In Europe
Implants have become a boon for many as it replaces the actual organs in the body. Even in the field of ophthalmology, many implants have been introduced in the market that offer artificial sight.
A German firm called Retinal Implant AG has developed a new device called as Alpha AMS subretinal implant for people that have become blind due to retinitis pigmentosa. It is a newer version of the already approved Alpha IMS, which hit the European markets in 2013.

Retinitis pigmentosa is one of the most common inherited diseases of the retina. It causes night blindness in the early stages, along with atrophy and pigment changes in the retina, constriction of the visual field and eventual blindness.

This new device offers an improved vision clarity featuring 1600 pixels, which is 100 more than the earlier one. The implanted chip acts as a retina and captures images multiple times a second. It also stimulates the optic fiber based on what is caught.

There are no external cameras in this device, which enables it to give a natural vision. It also helps the patient to see clearly around the eyes without even having to turn the entire head to change the point of view.

The German Firm has now obtained European regulatory approval for this improved device, Alpha AMS subretinal implant.
