The drug ketamine, nicknamed as 'Fantastic Ket' is a general and animal anaesthetic.
Also known as ‘Special K’, Ketamine will now be put under Class C category of drugs. This decision was taken by the government as per the recommendations received from the Expert Advisory Committee on Drugs.Drug Foundation executive director Ross Bell sees a small but positive change since this decision will help in decreasing the illegal usage of the drug such as storage,importation, possession, manufacture, or supply for illicit purposes.
This drug will still be available as prescription-only medicince by vets and doctors.
