Resident Doctors Go on Mass Leave in Mumbai

In Mumbai, resident doctors from around 14 government medical colleges and hospitals went on mass leave in protest, as they put forward their long pending demand of hike in pay.

Swapna Kulkarni, general secretary of Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors, expressed his ire over non-revision of their stipend.

Doctors Competence Could Do With an IPad Boost

"There should be a revision in stipend after every three years. But the three years have gone in 2012 only and now this is 2013. This implies that government is implementing hike in the fees but is not implementing hike in the stipend," said Kulkarni

Santosh, one of the protesting doctors, said that the terms of the bond policy should be implemented properly.

They (government) are not calculating our experience of bond service in our teaching experience. So, when we appear for Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) exam in permanent lectureship or anything, they don't count our experience. We are saying that we are ready for the bond and we are not denying in any way. We demanding respectable payment and count our experience in that manner," said Santosh.

Two-fold Fee Hike for Medical Colleges Across the State
the Maharashtra state government has approved a two-fold fee hike for all the government and aided medical colleges across the state.

According to a government policy, there should be an assessment of the stipend paid to the resident doctors every three years.

The doctors were supposed to get a hike in July 2012 after the review in 2009, but unfortunately they did not receive any hike.

Medicos Across the Country Oppose the New Syllabus Proposed for MBBS Course
The changes that have been proposed in the current MBBS curriculum by the Medical Council of India (MCI) have been opposed by postgraduate students, medical teachers and doctors.

Resident doctors were also disappointed over the discontinuation of the scholarship given to students of the other backward class.

They also said that adequate arrangements have been made so that the patients do not suffer due to the strike.

DME Warns to Take Action Against Striking Doctors
The strike by the post graduate (PG) medical students of government medical college hospitals (MCH) had entered the third day yesterday.

The doctors threatened to go on an indefinite strike from January 31 if the government failed to fulfil their demands.
