Researchers Use Stem Cell Technology to Regenerate Patients’ Immune Cells to Fight Deadly Diseases

Two new papers published in the journal Cell Stem Cell reveal that researchers have managed to regenerate patients’ immune cells, which specifically target cancer and viral infections, by using stem cell technology. The researchers managed to create immune cells that recognized their specific targets, HIV infected cells and cancer cells, which could lead to development of new strategies in order to improve a patient’s immune responses against the diseases. The findings could help in the development of strategies to rejuvenate patients' exhausted immune responses.
