There’s a whole system around making sure that one person's blood isn't contacting with another person, and we weren't sure when we visited the nurse's home that proper infection control processes were in place. Nurses cannot prescribe and administer schedule four medications, which is what these are, without being supervised by a doctor. This is a cottage industry which is completely unregulated, without any of the normal safeguards,” Dr Weeramanthri said.
