Recall Issued for Three Children Homeopathic Medicines Containing Belladonna
Raritan Pharmaceuticals has issued recall against three brands of over-the-counter homeopathic medicines of children, following FDA reports.
The recall announcement was issued following the United States Food and Drug Administration tests which determined various amounts of belladonna present in CVS Homeopathic Infants’ Teething Tablets, CVS Homeopathic Kids’ Ear Relief Liquid and Kids Relief Ear Relief Homeopathic Oral Liquid. Homeopathic medicines usually follow a natural approach to healing.

Belladonna is a substance that can cause harm when taken in more than the recommended quantities. It is referred as “beautiful lady”.

The leaves and berries of the plant Atropa belladonna are used for various medicinal purposes. Belladonna is used to enlarge the pupil in the eyes.

Even though being toxic, it is used for various purposes like irritable bowel syndrome, menstrual cramps, motion sickness, peptic ulcer, infant colic and diverticulitis.

The company has issued own recall of teething tablets and FDA has also issued blanket warning for these products.
