Qui Vive: Intense Nuclear Radiation Threat, Scientists
Threat of nuclear radiation exposure is graver than formerly believed warn latest reports and scientific reviews. Just recently, the UK Guardian published an article titled, “Fukushima reactor shows radiation levels much higher than thought.” Another recent story published in Scientific American, finds California kelp contaminated with elevated levels of radioactive iodine. A review from the Max-Planck Society estimates that the risks of another serious nuclear accident are significantly higher than previously thought. As reports continue to reveal elevated nuclear radiation levels in Japan and elsewhere, public concerns about the safety of Fukushima and other reactor sites are reignited.
Today, reports on the aftermath of Japan’s nuclear accident continue to emerge out of the general confusion over the crisis. Amidst the shrouded statements issued by government authorities, and despite the potentially skewed media coverage, one fact is becoming increasingly clear: we’re still vulnerable to the far-reaching impacts of harmful nuclear radiation. For this reason, it’s important to be aware of the potential dangers and take proper steps to protect health.

Radiation Protection Protocol Integrative physician Isaac Eliaz, M.D., L.Ac., is a leading researcher and expert on safe detoxification and protection from radioactive isotopes and heavy metals. Here, Dr. Eliaz outlines a strategic plan for combating potential radiation exposure, using natural detoxifiers, trace minerals, antioxidants, and immune boosters.

“This approach will help to remove potential radiation from the body, protect cells, tissues and DNA, and strengthen vitality and immunity. The beauty of this strategy is that while these solutions help remove radiation, they also enhance overall health with numerous additional benefits,” says Dr. Eliaz.

Kelp Help Kelp is very high in minerals, including therapeutic levels of iodine, which blocks radioactive iodine absorption in the thyroid. Kelp’s minerals also help prevent the absorption of other radioactive isotopes, making these particles easier to eliminate. In addition, sea vegetables provide critical support and protection for the immune system, which is essential during times of stress and exposure to pollution, including radiation. Due to its high levels of chlorophyll and alginates, kelp is also a powerful detoxifying agent. Alginates bind to and remove radioactive particles, heavy metals and toxins from the body. As radiation leaks into ocean waters, however, kelp supplies can become contaminated. Dr. Eliaz recommends organic kelp from the North Atlantic ocean.

Pectin and Alginates First Used in Chernobyl Dr. Eliaz states, “As a doctor and researcher, I have always been deeply concerned about the dangers of nuclear energy. In fact, it was the tragedy of Chernobyl and the subsequent use of pectins and alginates to reduce radiation levels in child victims of this disaster, which prompted my original research into the use of Modified Citrus Pectin (MCP) to chelate radioactive particles and heavy metals.”

MCP has a specific molecular weight and structure which allows for absorption into the bloodstream and optimal bio-activity against heavy metals, radioactive isotopes, and cancer cells. It can be used alone, or together with sodium alginates in a gentle, Phase I chelation formula. This all natural chelation formula is clinically proven to reduce heavy metals from the body without affecting essential minerals.

In addition, MCP helps maintain cellular health by protecting against cancer proliferation and metastasis. This is important, because radiation exposure can damage DNA and cause numerous types of abnormal and malignant cellular growth.

Medicinal Mushrooms Medicinal mushrooms, in particular Ganoderma and Cordyceps, protect against radiation damage to bone marrow, intestines, internal organs and cells. These mushrooms can prevent radiation-induced changes in the body, boost immunity, detoxify tissues, promote healthy cell replication and boost overall energy and health. Ganoderma and Cordyceps, along with extra immune boosting beta-glucans, can be found in a comprehensive Ten Mushroom formula for daily health and detox support.

Antioxidants and Detoxifiers Antioxidants protect DNA integrity, sooth inflammation caused by toxins and radiation, boost immunity, detoxify the body and promote overall health. They play numerous critical roles in detoxification and protection against cellular damage.

Glutathione is one of nature’s most potent antioxidants and is known to protect against heavy metals and radioactive particles. One of the best ways to supplement glutathione is to take nutrients and herbs which support glutathione production and utilization in the body, such as: *Cilantro *Garlic *Milk Thistle *Dandelion *Lipoic Acid *N-acetylcysteine (NAC) *Whey powder *Vitamin C Dr. Eliaz also recommends taking a Phase II detox formula, which contains a blend of glutathione precursors and other botanicals and nutrients that work to remove heavy metals and toxins from deep within organs and tissues. This Phase II formula can be introduced after preparing with the Phase I chelation formula for two weeks. Both of these formulas can safely reduce heavy metals and radioactive particles in the body while protecting and promoting overall health.

What about Iodine pills? "Iodine lasts in the body for only 24 hours," states Dr. Eliaz. "Taking more than a one-time high dose in the case of a local nuclear event is not recommended, especially if you have thyroid issues or are sensitive to iodine. It is preferable, but not essential, to take a combination of iodine and iodide, as available in a product called Iodoral, or in Lugol solution. For ongoing radiation exposure, low doses of iodine between 6 and 25 mg/day can be taken for a limited period of time under the supervision of your health care provider." This supplement works by saturating the thyroid with enough therapeutic iodine, thus preventing absorption of radioactive iodine.

De-Stress Dr. Eliaz emphasizes, "One of the most important steps you can take to protect your health in any event, is to minimize stress. Meditation, deep mindful breathing and exercises such as yoga and Qi Gong are excellent practices for reducing stress and promoting health. Also, make sure your body is properly nourished with whole foods, botanicals and nutrients. While these recommendations can help prevent radiation damage, they will also boost overall vitality and general well being."
