 Psoriasis Increases Risk of Stroke
A new study conducted by a group of Danish researchers suggests that people suffering from skin condition psoriasis are at three times’ greater risk of suffering from stroke.
Researchers at the Copenhagen University Hospital Gentofte analyzed cases of atrial fibrillation and ischemic stroke in Denmark during the period between 1997 and 2006 and found that nearly 37,000 patients also had mild form of psoriasis while 2,800 patients had severe form of the disease. The study has been published in the recent issue of European Heart Journal.

Stating that more research is needed in order to ascertain whether treating psoriasis would reduce the risk of strokes, lead researcher Dr Ole Ahlehoff said, “In recent years, psoriasis has certainly taken the step from a disease affecting appearance to a systemic disease and cardiovascular risk factor.”
