Protein-Rich Diet Better for Weight Loss Than Just Cutting Calories
Instead of simply cutting down on calories, opting for a protein rich diet is the best way to shed those extra kilos, a new study by Australian researchers reveals.
A diet rich in proteins has always been recommended by trainers and weight loss specialists and the new study further strengthens the practice by providing scientific evidence. The study was conducted by researchers at University of Sydney on 22 volunteers.

The researchers asked the volunteers to follow three separate diets, each consisting of 10 percent, 12 percent and 15 percent of protein intake. The researchers found that those who followed the diet that contained the least amount of proteins consumed 15 percent more calories compared to those who followed the diet with the largest portion of proteins.

They also found that more than 70 percent of the excessive calories came from mindless eating. Writing in the report, which has been published in the journal PLoS One, lead researcher Alison Gosby said, “The results show that humans have a particularly strong appetite for protein, and when the proportion of protein in the diet is low this appetite can drive excess energy intake. Our findings have considerable implications for body weight management.”
