The second International Yoga Day was celebrated across Delhi in a big way. On this occasion, President Pranab Mukherjee inaugurated a mass yoga demonstration at the iconic Rashtrapati Bhavan. He called on the nation to embrace in discipline in everyday life.
Speaking on the occasion, President Mukherjee appreciated Prime Minister Narendra Modi's efforts in pulling off the annual event successfully, and called on the world community to practice yoga to stay fit and healthy. At the event which was attended by more than 1,000 people, he said, "On the basis of Prime Minister's proposal United Nations on 11 December, 2014 at the 69th session of the UN assembly decided that the June 21 would be observed as International Yoga Day."

"One thing is very interesting to note that how much interest was created as many as 177 countries who are the members of the United Nations general assembly cosponsored their allusion," he said.

The mega mass yoga demonstration organized at Connaught Place witnessed huge participation of people from all walks of life. They performed different postures of Yoga during 45 minutes of Yoga demonstration protocol. A group of Divyangs performed yogasanas on wheel chairs as well.

On the occasion of the International Yoga Day today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asserted that the ancient Indian art was the most selfless of its kind, as it did not discriminate, did not ask for much, but simply functioned for the betterment of mankind and brought every society together.

Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu, who participated in the yoga event at the venue, said that Yoga is becoming popular across the globe as it increases energy and improves immunity.

Besides, yoga events were also organized at six other locations of the city including Nehru Park, Lodhi Garden, Talkatora Garden and Japani Park in Rohini. Resident Welfare Associations are also holding yoga sessions in their localities.

In 2016, more than 135 countries participated in the International Day of Yoga celebrations across the world, according to an official video. On the first International Yoga Day in 2015, Prime Minister Modi led thousands of people through various yogic exercises at Rajpath in New Delhi. With it, India created two records: largest yoga class with 35,985 people and most nationalities (84) participating in a single yoga event.
