Playing poker might indeed be beneficial for your health after a study by Canadian researchers reveal that the popular card game could be an effective stress buster.

Researchers from a Canadian University monitored the levels of stress hormone known as cortisol among a number of online poker players. They found that as the user became more engaged in the game, his levels of cortisol dropped by as much as 17 percent.

While poker is often regarded as one of the most stressful card games, the researchers believe that as the user gets more engaged in the game, his complete attention is focused on the game and thereby forgets his other worries and responsibilities.

This in turn starts to lower the production of cortisol in the body, thereby reducing his stress levels.

Poker has already been a focal point of another study with scientists revealing that the game acts as a powerful improver of cognitive function since it helps exercise the brain
