PMC Proposes New Medical College

The standing committee chairman of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Mr. Arvind Shinde, has proposed to set up a medical college to be managed by the civic body. To discourage the staff of information technology (IT) companies from using cars, he has also declared to provide a luxury bus service to the staff through the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML). He made this announcement while presenting the civic body's budget for 2011-12 during the general body (GB) meeting.

Mr. Shinde proposed a 9crore budget to develop the medical college at the Naidu Hospital. He hopes that the college would get recognition by December and admissions would start from March next year. The proposed college would be known as Priyadarshini Indira Gandhi Medical College. 200 doctors will pass out of this college every year. These doctors will be absorbed in PMC-run hospitals.

Two-fold Fee Hike for Medical Colleges Across the State
the Maharashtra state government has approved a two-fold fee hike for all the government and aided medical colleges across the state.

He has proposed Rs. 12.5 crore for 25 buses provision of about Rs12.5 crore which is equipped with laptops, mobile chargers and liquid crystal display (LCD) screens. The buses will ferry to and fro in areas like Hinjewadi, Kharadi and Ranjangaon. The budget will also provide free bicycles to all students from standards VII to X and a separate luxury bus service to the Pune airport from the remote areas.
