A new study conducted by researchers at University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) suggests that people who post about their relationships on social media, including Facebook, tended to be more secure and happy in their relationships.
Researchers led by Laura Saslow observed the posts of married Facebook users over the age of 18 years and found that those who were happy in their relationships were more likely to have posted a picture of themselves and their spouse as their Facebook profile while they were also more likely to post information about their relationship on the days when they felt the most satisfied about their relationship.
"It makes sense that someone who's happier with their life would post these kinds of pictures to show off their relationship. But general life satisfaction and personality traits couldn't account for our findings", co-author of the study, Amy Muise said.
The study will be appearing in the journal Social Psychological and Personality Science.
