Pedestrian Deaths on the Rise Due to Texting and Music
Pedestrian deaths have witnessed an increase and research reveals that habits as harmless as texting and listening to music are found to be the cause of accidents.
Habits like texting and listening to music or preoccupation with electronic devices while walking can distract the mind and study shows that such people do not follow even simple safety measures of looking both ways while crossing a road.

The study showed that those who text while walking or driving are four times vulnerable than other pedestrians to meet with accidents as they are too distracted to follow safety rules.

Research showed that pedestrians who text take more time to cross the street.  They failed to look both ways, obey signals, and stayed longer in the cross walk

Music listeners appeared oblivious to the flow of cars .These findings may offer a clue as to the reasons for the decrease in traffic related deaths but increase in pedestrian deaths.
