Parents Get Insulin Pump Tattoos to Make Son Happy
In order to make sure that their five year old son does not feel alone, a Canadian couple got themselves inked with insulin pump tattoos similar to the real one worn by their son.
Jacob was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when he was three. His parents, Philippe Aumond and Camille Boivin, decided to get him an insulin pump in order to do away with the constant insulin injections. While Jacob was initially excited about the pump and treated it with a new toy, he slowly began to realize that he was different from other kids at his school since no one else wore a pump.

“Before we had the pump, I think the way he felt is that having shots was just a little part of his day and nobody had to know. But then now, he was wearing a pump, and people could see it and people were asking questions and I think that’s what bothered him a little bit. So he felt really alone”, Boivin said.

The parents then decided to get themselves inked with a tattoo featuring an insulin pump similar to the one Jacob had. Boivin said that ever since they got themselves inked, Jacob does not feel alone and shows their tattoos to anyone who talks to him about the pump.
